Conroe Homes and the Conroe area are about 7 miles southeast of gorgeous Lake Conroe, where you can take part in multiple, year-round water and cultural events.

Lake Conroe is on the west fork of the San Jacinto River. It was built as a joint project of the City of Houston, the Texas Water Development Board, and the San Jacinto River Authority in 1973 as an alternate water source for the City of Houston.

The lake has over 22,000 acres of surface water, is 26 miles long and 6 miles wide at the widest point. The average depth of the lake is 20 feet deep; the deepest spot is 70 feet in the river channel. There are 157 miles of shoreline along Lake Conroe. Being so close a metropolitan area as large as Houston, the Lake Conroe area has experienced incredible growth and transformation over the last quarter century. Extending 21 miles in length and covering 21,000 surface acres, Lake Conroe is the reserve drinking water supply for the City of Houston and offers clean, clear water for a large variety of recreation (boating, fishing, hunting, golfing, swimming, water skiing, jet skiing, pleasure boating, etc.).

Luxurious hotels and condominiums, quality RV Parks, waterfront boat storage with valet launching, luxurious waterfront real estate developments are only a few of the attractions to this exceptional man made lake only 60 minutes north from Houston via IH-45. The lake is bordered on the north by Sam Houston National Forest, which provides an abundance of wildlife such as deer, several species of birds, even alligators. The lake has some of the best fishing around with species such as blue, channel and flathead catfish; striped, white and large-mouth bass; crappie and smallmouth buffalo. In Conroe you will also discover several parks, the most popular being beautiful Candy Cane Park, which offers nature and culture.

This 24 acre park is Conroe's most well known park. It began as the City & VFW Park and has grown into a popular destination that includes the Heritage Museum of Montgomery County which chronicles America's roots including the lumber and oil industries to the everyday lives of today's Montgomery County residents, ADA compliant playgrounds, pavilions, picnic areas, a gazebo, basketball courts, play structures, a 3/8 mile jogging/walking trail, the C.K. Ray Recreation Center and the Conroe Aquatic Center. In 2001, six new tennis courts were built to make room for a major expansion of the Aquatics Center that features two instructional pools and a splash/spray pool.
