HOUSTON, TEXAS- An analysis made using U.S. Census data published on California-based NerdWallet Inc.'s site on January 20 revealed that three of Houston communities are among the Best Small Cities for Families. These are great news for the ever-growing Houston real estate market.
The three suburbs that made the list were Sugar Land, Pearland and League City. This list was made up by the top 50 small cities for families across the whole United States. The list was the result of a study made by NerdWallet which analyzed over 1,000 American cities with population within the range of 25,000 to 100,000. The list was created taking into account three equally weighted factors: population and median household income growth, income and affordability and how family-friendly the city is. This last factor is based on the percentage of families with a least one child and who are living above poverty.
Pearland was the highest-ranking community, coming in at No.12, No. 12 with median household income of $91,528, a median home value of $180,000 and 5 percent of families living below the poverty line among other listed factors. It received an overall score of 64.76, while the top city received a score of 69.20.
On No. 25 came League City, with a median household income of $84,271, and Sugar Land ranked No. 49 with a median household income of $101,360. Even though Sugar Land has a higher median household income and median home value, the city population growth between 2009 and 2013 lagged behind its Pearland and League City counterparts, both of which have over 20 percent population growth in the same period of time.
