It was announced on April 29 that earlier this month, Houston-based company AmREIT entered into an agreement with Patrinely Group affiliate Crimson Real Estate Advisors LP to continue the $1 billion redevelopment of Uptown Park with a 252-unit luxury multifamily project, according to Olivia Pulsinelli, from the Houston Business Journal.

The agreement refers to the “Baker Site”, 1.118 acres located on the northwest sector of Uptown Park, one which includes a 99-year ground please. AmREIT will acquire a 15 percent interest in the joint venture as a co-general partner in the planned multifamily project in exchange for a capital contribution of $4.8 million.

The Woodlands, Texas- The Kiewit Energy group recently announced it is moving its operations to The Woodlands. The energy company will move its headquarters to a brand new 4-story 95,000 square foot facility located at 3831 Technology Forest Drive. Kiewit Energy provides integrated engineering, procurement and construction services to the oil, gas, refining, petrochemicals and other process industries.

Paul Layne, the executive vice-president of the master-planned communities for The Howard Hughes Corporation, expressed that Kiewit’s consolidation provided a great opportunity to the company to build a facility according to their needs. HOUSTON, Texas- Sedona Lakes is a 535-acre community that opened in 2010, situated along the Texas 288 corridor in Pearland, Texas. The community enjoyed initial success before development halted during the housing downturn.

HOUSTON, Texas- Marquette Cos. an Illinois-based developer that has been pretty active in Houston, will break ground this quarter on a 364-unit, 29-story apartment building that will feature an approximate of 7,700 square feet of ground floor retail space.

The new residential high-rise in downtown Houston will be located a block from the Houston Astro’s Minute Maid Park. Darren Sloniger, president of Marquette Co., expressed that it’s the first time they’ve seen a compelling reason to develop in Houston, and that they feel the project represents a unique opportunity to get in at the front end of the reorganizing of the Central Business District.

Sales and home demand in Sugar Land, Texas keep increasing, which means that Riverstone, one of Houston’s largest master-planned community will be expanding soon. It has been announced that Newmark Homes, a Houston-based homebuilder, purchased a 22-acre tract of land in Fort Bend County just west of Highway 6 on Oilfield Road adjacent to Riverstone.

This new neighborhoods in Riverstone will feature 63 55-foot home sites. The parcel will be developed for Newmark Homes by the Johnson Development Corp., developer of the Riverstone master-planned community.

HOUSTON, Texas- Western International, a Dallas-based developer, is planning to build two hotels in the Energy Corridor. The Energy Corridor area has shown an explosive growth, where currently 6.6 million square feet of office space are already under construction or expected to break ground this year.

These two hotels in the Energy Corridor will be developed on 5.2 acres in a master-planned development called Ten Oaks, which is situated at the northwest intersection of Park Row and Barker Cypress Road. Ten Oaks was developed by Wolff Cos. The hotels will be a 135-room Courtyard by Marriott and a Hampton Inn & Suites, featuring 135 rooms as well.

The city has more new home construction than any other city in the country and this trend is only expected to get even more intense in the next following years, even though home prices will continue to rise too, a national housing consultant predicts.

Houston’s new-home prices are at an all-time high. With the economy strong and the supply of new homes very tight, home prices will continue to go up, probably about 5 percent this year, followed by a 4 percent gain next year. Houston builders could be building and selling 50,000 new homes in 2014, but a shortage of labor and quality lots is suppressing the local construction industry somewhat.

It has just been announced by Houston-based developer PinPoint Commercial that Woodland Creek, a new development in Spring, Texas, located on Sawdust Road, southeast of Sawmill Road will soon break ground.

Woodland Creek will be located on a 75-acre site near the master-planned community of The Woodlands Texas. It will feature high-end residential development, upscale office and commercial space as well as some retail, according to the press release. This new development is planned for completion in five or six years, with a cost surpassing $250 million once it’s completed.

The development for a 3,700-acre parcel with forested areas, lakes, streams and open spaces will start this summer, with the first homesites available by spring of 2015.

Toll Brothers homes, a luxury-home builder, purchased the property in January and entered into an agreement with the Johnsons Development Corp to act as primary developer of the area.
